The Nebraska football team had a slow start once the transfer portal opened, but Matt Rhule and the Huskers have been red-hot since last weekend. NU is so hot right now that they're even nabbing commits that aren't technically through the portal. Daniel Kaelin and Andy Burburija are the latest additions to a team working hard to retool and reload for 2026.
Kaelin is one of the most interesting stories of the Huskers and the transfer portal this winter. After drawing a ton of praise from head coach Matt Rhule when he committed to NU in 2024, he transferred out after the end of last season and joined the Virginia Cavaliers.
Earlier this week, industry analysts started seeing hints that Kaelin was very open to returning to Nebraska. Matt Rhule and his staff were also very open to the man who battled Dylan Raiola for the starting job returning as well. On Sunday night, the quarterback made it official. He beaten to the punch just minutes earlier by Burburjia, the JUCO All-American defensive tackle.
Daniel Kaelin and Andy Burburjia headline Nebraska’s latest roster additions
The Iowa Western defender commitment marked both a significant addition to NU's defensive line and a rare connection between the JUCO power and Big Ten school that are located just 60 miles apart.
The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder is coming off a season where he recorded 45 tackles and 12 sacks.
Burburjia is technically not a Transfer Portal pickup. However, he'll be able to join the Nebraska program, much like any transfer portal in 2026.
Kaelin is the second transfer quarterback the Cornhuskers have added to the quarterbacks room. Both he and former UNLV QB1 Anthony Colandrea have committed since NU landed the commitment of Kenny Minchey on Sunday, and saw him decommit last Monday.
Andy Burburjia is the first new addition to the defensive tackle corps since Rob Aurich and Roy Manning joined Nebraska's defensive staff, and Corey Brown is reportedly another defensive line coach.
