Former Nebraska QB may come 'home' through the transfer portal

A familiar name resurfaced in Lincoln this week as Nebraska quietly positioned itself to add another quarterback with Power Four starting experience.

Back when Daniel Kaelin committed to Nebraska, he was a member of the Bellevue Three who all became Huskers in the same class. However, after their freshman seasons, Kaelin, as well as wide receivers Dae'Vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris, all transferred out.

Now it looks like Kaelin could be coming back after a season with the Virginia Cavaliers. In the process, the former Bellevue West quarterback got some serious experience on a Cavs team that went all the way to the ACC championship. Kaelin even started one game when the team's QB1 was hurt.

Kaelin took an unofficial visit to Nebraska on Friday, and according to Sean Callahan, he's expected to commit to the Huskers. Should he do that, the Huskers would likely be done at quarterback for this winter as he'll join Anthony Colandrea, who committed earlier this week.

Kaelin has drawn rave reviews from his coaches. In his freshman season, Matt Rhule said he believed that with Kaelin and Raiola, he had two future NFL quarterbacks on the roster.

Virginia head coach Tony Elliott talked about what had impressed him about the young quarterback earlier in the spring.

"I like what I've seen so far out of Daniel [Kaelin] as well. You know what I'm saying? He's got the same moxie about him," said UVA head coach Tony Elliott. "Seen him on a Saturday with a couple of guys working out which tells me they're gravitating towards him as well, which is going to create healthy competition," said Elliot.

The return of Kaelin is an interesting one if only because the quarterback competition is expected to take place between Colandrea and TJ Lateef.
