Once thought to be a very solid lean to the Nebraska football program, Cooper Tewilliger may have put the Huskers in his rear-view mirror. If that's not painful enough, the 4-star tight end hasn't just lost interest in NU, he's lost interest in favor of Penn State.
According to Rivals analyst Tim Verghese, Terwilliger's change isn't all that surprising. Though it's still deflating for NU, which thought it had all but secured one of the best players at his position in the class. "In a recruitment Nebraska once looked as the sure-fire favorite, the Huskers now appear unlikely to earn an official visit," Verghese wrote on Twitter.
Verghese went so far as to flip an earlier prediction to Nebraska so that he's now expecting Terwilliger to commit to the Nittany Lions. This certainly doesn't come as a shock to the Huskers, as other recruiting analysts have considered Penn State the new leader since February.
Cooper Terwilliger is now trending away from Nebraska football and toward Penn State
Steve Wiltfong, Greg Smith, Allen Trieu, and now Verghese all believe the tight end will head to State College. It appears it's only a matter of time before the prospect pulls the trigger.
Cooper Terwilliger is the No. 1 player in South Dakota according to both Rivals and 247Sports. He's also inside the Top 250 players overall by both sites.
As another sign of just how completely the switch from Nebraska to Penn State was a bit of a surprise but also very solid, Verghese is just one of the analysts who has changed his prediction. Greg Smith also had the Huskers as the big pick back in November.
