While Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are bummed about Fred Hoiberg's team losing two in a row, the way Michigan and Illinois have played since their NU games, it's clear that Nebrasketball is indeed a very talented team.
On Wednesday night, the Fighting Illini played their first game since beating the Huskers by 9 points in Lincoln. They took on in-state rival Northwestern ... and a rout might be an understatement.
While the Nebraska Cornhuskers are sitting and waiting and healing up before they take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, they watched Illinois beat Northwestern by 40 points, 84-44. On Thursday night, the Michigan Wolverines had the same sort of outing against Penn State, beating the Nittany Lions down by 41 points, 110-69.
Nebraska Cornhuskers officially lose QB commit Tanner Vibabul to James Madison
While the Huskers got a big signee on Wednesday in defensive tackle Dylan Berymon, they were hoping to also score a quarterback in Tanner Vibabul. He didn't sign on the dotted line, and rumors sparked up that he was headed elsewhere. On Thursday, he officially signed with James Madison.
It appears the Dukes were able to offer him more money and a better shot at playing in 2026 and beyond. It's not a huge loss, but they are missing a QB who is headed to a playoff team, showing that Vibabul was a talented dual-threat signal caller.
More Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- As MLB Spring Training draws closer, several former Nebraska Cornhuskers players are getting non-roster invites to camp. It's not the whole list, but Max Anderson will be in the Tigers' spring training, and Josh Caron will do the same with the Mariners. One-time Nebraska signee Jakson Reetz is also headed to the Mariners.
- Trae Taylor continues to peer recruit for the Huskers and Matt Rhule. This past weekend, that included working on wide receiver Kesean Bowman. Taylor may be NU's secret weapon in trying to land the 5-star 2027 prospect.
- Nebraska Cornhuskers coaches are also working hard on 2027 recruiting. That includes going to watch top tight end prospect Cooper Terwilliger hoop it up. Terwilliger recently got some big-time offers, including from Notre Dame. However, NU is at least, for now, still considered the favorite to land his commitment.
- The Nebraska Cornhuskers don't have to recruit Danny Odem anymore. He's already signed on the dotted line, and Matt Rhule has gotta be plenty thrilled about that. Odem recently got a boost in the 247Sports rankings that has him as the No. 2 cornerback in the entire class.
