The Nebraska football team hasn’t had a commit in quite a while but the Huskers are starting to make a move on several different fronts. One is QB prospect Trae Taylor, who loved everything he saw in a recent unofficial visit to Lincoln.
Another is 4-star linebacker Calvin Thomas. The Cy Ranch (Houston, TX) defender recently named the 15 schools he focuses on, and the Cornhuskers made the cut. Now they just need to keep plowing away and winning over yet another prospect in a state they’ve had some success in since Matt Rhule came to Lincoln.

In addition to Nebraska, Thomas named Texas A&M, North Carolina, Michigan, SMU, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Illinois, Oregon, Baylor, Texas, TCU, Houston, Notre Dame, and LSU.
The apparent trend here is that the 4-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, is looking heavily at the Big Ten and his home state of Texas for his college landing spot. The Nebraska football team might, in some ways, have an in there since they’re obviously in the Big Ten and have quite a few staffers that have good connections in the state of Texas. Matt Rhule has a good track record in the Lone Star state.
Thomas is a heck of a defender, having racked up 69 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 7 sacks, 1 INT, and 1 FR, per MaxPreps. He’s also got some serious speed, considering he posted a 14.88 in the 110-meter hurdles and 38.32 in the 300-meter hurdles, per MileSplit.
The next step in the process will be to get the Nebraska football team to get Calvin Thomas into Lincoln for a visit. With him paring down to his Top 15, the fight has just begun and it could be a big one right up until December.
