As they say, patience is a virtue. However, it’s safe to assume that former Nebraska football running back Ameer Abdullah didn’t think he’d need to show patience for 12 seasons before he finally ran for 100 yards in a game.

And yet, the veteran running back was rewarded for his patience. And his stick tuitiveness. And yes, for being on a team out of the playoff race with injuries up and down its roster, willing to look for conventional ways to score points.

The beloved former Nebraska football running back was rewarded for his patience, and for being good enough to stick in the NFL for 12 years by finally getting his first 100-yard rushing game. It wasn’t as though he barely cleared that stat either. He finished Sunday’s Raiders’ game against the New Orleans Saints with 20 carries for 115 yards (5.8 YPC) he added 3 receptions for 32 yards for good measure. The icing on the cake was that Abdullah’s effort helped lift Las Vegas to just its fourth victory of the season.

Ex-Nebraska football running back gets first career 100-yard rushing game

Adbullah entered the NFL after a phenomenal career with the Huskers in 2015 as a second round pick by the Detroit Lions. He started off like gangbusters, running for 597 yards and 2 touchdowns in his rookie campaign.

However, his size, injuries and just plain bad luck on occasion conspired to keep him from repeating that performance very often. In 2017, he ran for 552 yards and 4 touchdowns. Those were the only two years before 2024 when even ran for over 300 yards.

Abdullah has spent the majority of his career as a special teams ace and sometimes running back. He’s carved out a place for himself with the Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers and now Las Vegas Raiders. And now he has his first 100 yard game. He’s also got the most rushing yards in a season since that 2017 campaign.

The former Nebraska football star ran for over 100 yards in a game 24 times in 53 outings for the Huskers. He ran for over 200 yards four times in his senior season alone. With one week left in this season, Ameer Abdullah seems to have found the fountain of youth.
