The Nebraska football alum signed a new deal on Wednesday.

A former Nebraska football alum is headed back to Minnesota. Running back Ameer Abdullah signed a new deal with the Vikings on Wednesday. In doing so, he will provide Minnesota with the same dependability he has the past three seasons.

He has taken on  a special teams role for the organization. However,  that does not mean he has not seen his fair share of action. He played in 16 games last season for the Vikings. He also managed to fill in a little bit in terms of running back duties.

He carried the ball eight times for 42 yards last year. He also caught eight passes for 42 yards and two touchdowns. In that respect, he fit in decently with a Minnesota offense that has relied quite a bit on pass-catching backs.

Sure, his role may be a bit smaller for Minnesota given that Dalvin Cook is their starting running back. However, this is a testament to the fact that Abdullah just keeps chugging along. He has found himself a niche in Minnesota, and the Vikings seem to really like what he brings to the table. For Nebraska football, he brought toughness and explosiveness.

He has certainly brought that same grid with them to Minnesota. Sure, his numbers have not been as flashy as they were in Lincoln. That is certainly okay. He has shown an ability to just keep plugging along. There is certainly something to be set for that, especially where longevity is not hallmark of an NFL career.

It will be interesting to see what his role for Minnesota will be in the 2021 season. Whatever it is, it seems to have found stability with the Minnesota Vikings. After what was a very successful Nebraska football career, stability in the NFL sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
