For Nebraska, things have been rather quiet on the Ahmad Hudson front. That may be because, despite Matt Rhule and the Huskers pushing hard for the talented tight end, it’s becoming unlikely they'll flip him from LSU.
Hudson has sent several messages suggesting he's seriously considering the Huskers since he committed to the Tigers this spring. However, even after he took official visits to Lincoln once the season started, the rumblings have been much quieter, even after Rhule visited the tight end on NU’s bye week.
Hudson’s latest comments in an interview with 247Sports make it seem like Nebraska has officially lost the battle, just a little over a month away from signing day.
247Sports analyst Andre Champagne asked Hudson about current LSU star tight end Trey’Dez Green, who wants Hudson to follow in his footsteps and become the next tight end to wear No. 7 in Baton Rouge: “He wants it to be me,” Hudson said.
Ahmad Hudson’s LSU comments deal another blow to Nebraska football flip hopes
Green's recruiting impact for LSU, paired with Nebraska's noticeable lack of mojo in pursuing Hudson, is a tough one-two punch for the Huskers after looking minutes away from pulling off the flip. It’s increasingly looking like the Ruston, Louisiana product feels at home, despite a strong courtship.
Hudson is a 5-star tight end in the 2027 recruiting class. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound tight end plays for Ruston High School in Ruston, Louisiana. Hudson committed to LSU on May 3, 2026, after his recruitment narrowed to a battle between LSU and Nebraska. He is also a highly ranked basketball prospect and intends to play both football and basketball in college.
Hudson is ranked as the No. 19 player in the 2027 class, the No. 1 player at his position, and the No. 3 player in the state of Louisiana according to the latest 247Sports Composite Rankings.
As a junior at Ruston in 2025, Hudson caught 61 passes for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games. He averaged 15.7 yards per reception and helped Ruston reach the Louisiana Division I Non-Select state championship game. Hudson caught six passes for 169 yards and a touchdown in the state championship loss to Ouachita Parish.
Through eight games this season, Hudson has caught 38 passes for 581 yards and 6 touchdowns, averaging 15.3 yards per reception and 72.6 receiving yards per game. He entered Ruston’s October 23 game against Alexandria with 33 receptions for 514 yards and 5 touchdowns, then caught 5 passes for 67 yards and a touchdown in the 27-21 loss to the Trojans.
It won’t be long before Hudson’s final hoops season begins and he starts racking up big numbers in that as well. Assuming the vibes are right and he sticks with LSU, not being able to flip Ahmad Hudson will also hurt the Nebraska basketball program.
