There’s quite a bit of optimism around the Nebraska football these days. Which is sort of fun, considering how little optimism there was around the program this time last week.
But giving the No. 4 team in the country it can handle on its home turf can change things. And if that game brought about some excitement in Lincoln, then a potential recruiting flip this weekend would be icing on the cake.
Of course, it would be icing on the cake if the Nebraska football team managed to beat UCLA, clinch a bowl game, and flip Chase Loftin from Florida State in the span of a couple of days. And according to at least one recruiting analyst, that could be exactly what’s about to happen.
Nebraska football could be in for very big weekend
It was announced on Sunday that Loftin is hitting Lincoln for a visit during UCLA gameday. That’s a big thing all on its own. It shows that Florida State’s 1-7 season is going down the drain. In a big way. And it’s never not fun to point and laugh at the Seminoles.
Now Steve Wiltfong has entered a “Fongbomb” predicting that not only is Loftin visiting, but the 4-star Millard South tight end will commit to the Huskers very shortly. It would seem likely that Loftin scheduling a visit for this weekend, just weeks ahead of the December signing day means that he’ll commit to NU before Sunday is out.
Perhaps most importantly, the visit this weekend isn’t the first time he's been in town in the last few weeks. And the top rated in-state prospect said he thinks things are changing for the better under Matt Rhule.
Maybe Loftin needed to see that for himself. Maybe he needed to see that this season would show actual progress before he pulled the trigger. Now, Nebraska football could be in position to have the best weekend in a really, really long time.
