The Nebraska football team has been adding talent at tight end through the last few recruiting classes and it looks like it’s going to keep that streak going in the 2026 cycle. The Huskers checked a big box when it comes to getting one of the best tight ends in the 2026 class when it made the Top 5 for Colorado prospect, Mason Bonner.

Nebraska football lands in Top 5 of top TE target

Bonner recently took to social media to announce the five teams he’s focusing on at this point in the recruiting calendar. While the Huskers are in the running, they’ve got some stiff competition they’ll need to fight off before Decemeber’s signing day.

In addition to the Nebraska football team, Bonner named Minnesota, Texas Tech, Miami, and Michigan. Now it’s going to be all about what part of the country the the prospect wants to spend his college days. The next step in settling that will obviously be getting Bonner to Lincoln for an official visit.

The Big Ten has plenty of representation in Mason Bonner’s Top 5

One of the most interesting aspects of this list for the 3-star tight end target is that neither of his home-state teams made the Top 5, despite both offering. Penn State also has been recruiting Bonner pretty hard, but hasn’t been able to crack his finalists.

Considered the fourth best player in the state of Colorado for the 2026 cycle by 247 sports, he’s currently seing more time at wide receiver, but projects at tight end at the college level.

After seeing almost no playing time in his first two seasons of high school, Bonner broke out in his junior year, catching 33 passes for 617 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2024, according to Max Preps

So far, the only official visit that Bonner has locked in is with Minnesota. However, it appears the Nebraska football team will get one as he was reportedly quite excited about getting  a Husker offer and has family in the state.
