Dylan Raiola's decision to enter the transfer shouldn't be all that surprising. After all, the Nebraska Cornhuskers just fired his uncle, Donovan Raiola, and his younger brother, Dayton Raiola, decommitted from the program a few months ago.
However, even while it wasn't a huge shock, when the report came out that Raiola planned to leave Nebraska, it cut Cornhusker fans deep, and rubbed a little salt in the wound while at it.
Dylan Raiola's transfer might spell end for Matt Rhule
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has been anything but perfect since taking over the Cornhusker program in 2023. However, landing Raiola out of high school was a huge step in the right direction and then his success at Nebraska was even more beneficial for Rhule's tenure.
Now, with Raiola headed to seemingly greener pastures, Rhule's biggest win might turn into an even bigger loss for this resume.
Dylan Raiola was basically the one source of encouragement about the Matt Rhule era so far, what now for Nebraska.

During his two seasons as Nebraska's QB1, Raiola amassed 4,819 passing yards for 31 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Far from a dual-threat quarterback, he lost 152 yards on the ground and never scored a rushing touchdown. The best stat line of his career? He has two punts for 69 yards.
Dylan Raiola and DJ Lagway were both labeled “program saviors” before they ever enrolled and now both are transferring. Being “the guy” before you take a snap is an impossible standard to live up to. I’m talking to you Jared Curtis

When the news broke, it honestly wasn't 100 percent clear how Nebraska fans were feeling. From no longer having to defend Raiola's mistakes to being unsure who would step into his shoes on a permanent basis, the Cornhuskers were clearly experiencing a mixed bag of emotions.

As someone who played for numerous high schools, Raiola's journey over the past few years has been anything but consistent. Committing to (and decommitting from) both Ohio State and Georgia before finally landing on Nebraska, this will be his fourth "commitment" in just three years.
That’ll be school No. 6 in 7 years.

Dylan Raiola can still match the number of high schools he played for on the college side of things. pic.twitter.com/jflpj1k7YF
With his constant comparisons to NFL star Patrick Mahomes, it should come as no surprise that everyone immediately jumped to the conclusion that Raiola would transfer to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

If Dylan Raiola ends up at Texas Tech, Patrick Mahomes needs to file a restraining order. pic.twitter.com/1fkmrKXYJA

It is still entirely unknown (by the public, at least) where Raiola will end up next, but one thing is clear: Rhule needs to figure out his quarterback backup plan for the 2026 season.
