The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team is on a bit of a roll after starting off the season looking a bit uneven. After almost beating St. Mary’s, the Huskers throttled Creighton (and broke them in the process) and then on Wednesday night, ran over the South Dakota Coyotes.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that there is at least some doubt as to whether or not NU will have two of its better players back for its next game.

That’s because both Juwan Gary and Berke Buyuktuncel exited the game early with various injuries. For now, there isn’t any idea on just how badly either injury is, though the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball program is hoping neither is all that serious.

Gary managed to play just two minutes against South Dakota. He left after getting hit in the eye. It’s possible that at least part of the reason he didn’t try to return is because NU had the game in hand early on and it was never really in danger in the second half.

Buyuktuncel suffered a “muscular” injury but managed to play 12 minutes, score six points, haul down 6 rebounds and dish out 3 assists.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team won the game 96-79, though the game got rather ugly in the second half as there were plenty of turnovers, missed shots nad fouls called. Next up for NU is another tune-up game against North Florida before they open Big Ten play against Michigan State and Indiana. Because of those two toughies, it’s not out of the question that both Gary and Buyuktuncel could sit out Sunday’s contest to rest and get to 100% for the tougher matches later in the month.
