There was plenty good about the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ win over the Creighton Bluejays on Friday night. Not the least of which was the Huskers getting a Quad 1 win. They did that just a few days after they almost got another vs St. Mary’s

After the win, one in which the Cornhuskers dominated from start to finish, both the players and fans had quite a bit of a fun. Earlier in the week, head coach Fred Hoiberg pointed out that quite a few Creighton fans were also Nebraska fans, they just root for the football team when there’s no basketball on.

The elder Hoiberg was just pointing out the obvious, but it seems to have struck a nerve with the fans. It also struck a nerve with his son, who played an integral part in carrying out a defensive gameplan that included holding superstar Ryan Kalkbrenner to 4 points and one field goal attempt (which he missed.) After the game, Sam Hoiberg took to social media with an especially effective burn.

“Sorry for the loss blue jay fans,” Hoiberg wrote on Twitter.  “But don’t worry you can still get a win tomorrow!”

No, Hoiberg wasn’t saying the Blue Jays have another game on Saturday. He was talking about how the Creighton fans would be rooting for the Huskers against Wisconsin. It was the kind of burn that there’s no coming back from because it’s true. And Jays fans knew it.

Meanwhile, Husker fans enjoyed the barb.

Even Nebraska Cornhuskers media got into the mix, with Sean Callahan of On3 noting the take down

Sam Hoiberg's teammates loved it as well.

Some fans think he might have taken over the city

Some fans believed that Sam.

What's clear is that the Nebraska Cornhuskers took down the Bluejays in a game they needed to win for state pride and their NCAA Tournament resume. Sam Hoiberg took down Creighton fans because it was fun.
