Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball has another record breaking match in sight
Over the last two seasons, wins have been paramount for the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team. However, there’s also been a focus on making sure that the Huskers are breaking attendance records every now and then.
Volleyball day was the start, but it wasn’t the finish for John Cook’s squad. They also set the record for attendance in the Bob Devaney Center. Now Cook has another record on his mind.
He would like to see the Nebraska Cornhuskers break the Big Ten attendance record this time. And according to Cook, they’re going to have the chance to do it by playing a match next season in Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Nebraska Cornhuskers have another record in sight
The Purdue Boilermakers may have fallen to the Huskers in five sets back on Oct. 11th, but they did beat Nebraska at something else. Playing Indiana on Oct. 19th, the Boilermakers packed 14,876 people inside Mackey Arena, the home of the Purdue basketball teams, breaking the attendance record for a Big Ten match set in 2004 when Illinois played Minnesota in front of a crowd of 10,927.
While talking to Lauren Cook-West on their Kicking Back with the Cooks podcast on the Huskers Radio Network about the record set by Purdue, Cook said, "Immediately I sent off a text to Troy (Dannen), our athletic director and said 'OK, game on. We gotta break this.’”
"Next year we'll definitely be going to PBA (Pinnacle Bank Arena) so we can get that record too," Cook said.
Pinnacle Bank Arena is the home of the Nebraska men's and women's basketball teams and seats 15,500. The current PBA record for a volleyball match was set in 2016 when the US National team packed 10,213 fans inside the building.
It doesn’t seem like it would be hard to smash that PBA record and while Purdue’s record will be harder to break, one thing is clear. When Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are told they need to help the volleyball team break a record, they do it quickly.
