This is hardly a shocker, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is extremely popular. More to the point, it was extremely popular this year.

It was so popular, as a matter of fact that Jon Cook’s squad was one of two women’s team that pashed a $2 million threshold in tickets sold. It was the only women’s volleyball team to cross that threshold. And in fact, it was the only women’s volleyball team that even came close to crossing the $2 million number.

According to Sportico, the Nebraska Cornhuskers raked in $2.22 million in ticket sales this past year. The only women’s team that made more was the UCONN women’s basketball team, which brought in $2.79 million in ticket sales.

Interestingly enough, among the five biggest earners in women’s sports last year, the Big Ten had three of them. In addition to the Huskers, the Wisconsin Badgers’ volleyball team made $1.54 million, and the Iowa Hawkeyes’ women’s basketball team brought in $1.44 million.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ softball team got $1.47 million and was the fifth program on that list.

Obviously, it’s hardly a surprise that the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is popular. After all, they set attendance records almost everywhere they go. But managing to be one of two programs that brings in more $2 million in ticket sales this season is just another sign as to how popular the team is to its fans. That’s a big deal for a program that has seen some serious pain in the last few seasons.
