Nebraska Cornhuskers pull off once a decade win amid dominant run

The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team continues to be dominant and to show just how dominant, they just did something they haven't done since 2013.

Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball assistant Jordan Larson discussed their preparation for the Wisconsin Badgers earlier this week on the Huskers radio network. It sounded like they had some secret weapons in practice.

Secret or not, the way they were practicing certainly worked out. On Friday night, the Huskers pulled off the kind of win they haven’t in over a decade.

With a 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 sweep of the No. 7 ranked Badgers, the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team got its first win in Madison since 2013. The match was the 18th straight victory. Once again, it looks like an abysmal upset loss to SMU was precisely the kind of wake-up call the team needed; even if John Cook’s bunch aren’t always as clean as they should be, they simply aren’t losing.

Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball notches another phenomenal win

NU hit .202 for the match while holding UW to just .094. The defense was stout with 10 blocks, a number of which came against reigning national player of the year Sarah Franklin who hit just .184 in the Friday night tilt.

Taylor Landfair (who has seen more playing time as the season has gone on) notched a team-high 13 kills on .182 hitting. Merritt Beason had a match-high .391 hitting while putting down 11 kills.

Rebekah Allick had a match-high seven blocks to go with a trio of kills. Bergen Reilly dished out 32 assists on the night. In other words, the Huskers were as dominant in every phase of the game as one might expect, with a sweep over another Top 10 team.

The victory in Madison was NU's first win in that gym in over a decade and the fifth time NU had swept its last six matches. Now it’s about avoiding a letdown. On Sunday night, the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team takes on a Northwestern Wildcats team that is just 4-15 on the season and 2-9 in the Big Ten.
