When the Nebraska football team takes on Maryland this weekend, it won't simply be a matchup between two conference rivals. It will also be a showdown between Matt Rhule for the Huskers and Mike Locksley for the Terapins, who know each other quite well. In fact, Locksley was at the wedding party of one of Rhule's cousins back in the day.
The Huskers' head coach told a funny story during his first press conference for the Maryland game. He said that while Locksley had the duty to be in the group standing near the altar, Rhule was simply a teenager trying to score some beer. Whomst among us?
Matt Rhule throws a bit of shade at James Franklin
Speaking of relationships with other coaches, it doesn't sound like Rhule and Penn State head coach James Franklin will be partying together anytime soon. Franklin's team suffered one of the worst losses the sport has seen in the last 40 years. After the game, he blamed not getting over a loss to Oregon, as well as "travel" being the cause for his team allowing 42 points to a UCLA team that had previously averaged just under 14 points a game.
Talking about how the Nebraska Cornhuskers are preparing for Saturday's game, which will be the first true road game for the team all season, Rhule said they'd leave for College Park a day earlier than usual. He also said that if they lost, he wouldn't blame it on traveling 1,200 miles. That appeared to be a pretty obvious shot at Franklin from just two days earlier.

- Earlier this season, former Husker running back Ameer Abdullah was released by the San Francisco 49ers. Still, he was back in the NFL for at least one game this Sunday. Ameer had six yards and a touchdown on two carries in the Indianapolis Colts' 40-6 win. Unfortunately, he was put back on the Colts' practice squad on Monday.
- Current Husker Jacory Barney said exactly what fans wanted to hear on Saturday after NU rallied to beat Michigan State. "We're tired of the past...we just want to bring this back, bring Nebraska back. We're doing it."
- The Nebraska volleyball team doesn't need to be "brought back." They've been among the best in the country for years. That was demonstrated again this week after going 2-0 against Penn State and Rutgers. On Monday, Bergen Reilly got some recognition for her contributions, earning Big Ten Setter of the Week.
- He's not a member of the Nebraska Cornhuskers officially yet, but Trae Taylor keeps showing people why they should be excited that he soon will be. Taylor threw 5 touchdown passes and ran for 3 others in a heartbreaker of a 55-54 loss.
