There might not be a clearer indicator of how far the Nebraska Cornhuskers football program has fallen in the last couple of decades. EA Sports released the list of the 20 toughest places to play in EA Sports College Football 27, and the Huskers are not among the list. There was a time when Memorial Stadium in Lincoln was considered not only one of the 20 toughest, but likely one of the 5 toughest.
The Huskers haven’t been able to keep that going, and the teams that are on that list are even tougher medicine. Of the 20, six come from the Big Ten. Ohio State (No. 2), Penn State (No. 3), Oregon (No. 7), Michigan (No. 12), Washington (No. 15), Indiana (No. 17), and Iowa (No. 19) are all on the list.
Washington and Iowa have got to be the real slap in the face, considering there was a time when Husky Stadium and Kinnick wouldn’t be in the Top 50. Certainly, they wouldn’t have been ranked ahead of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We don’t even have to talk about Indiana being in the Top 20 after two good seasons, after decades of futility. This list is just another reminder that Matt Rhule has his work very much cut out for him.
Nebraska football scores in-state offensive line commit in Barrett Kitrell
The Cornhuskers are on one heck of a run, recruiting-wise, this month. On Monday, Matt Rhule and Co. hauled in their 11th commit in the month. That commitment, Greenwood-Ashland offensive lineman Barrett Kitrell, means that NU went from 10 commitments entering June to 21 with still more than a week to go.
Even better news for Kitrell’s commitment is that Nebraska beat Iowa straight up for his pledge. Considering it’s been hard for NU to beat Iowa in most anything other than baseball consistently, it’s nice to beat it in recruiting. Especially for an offensive lineman.

- The new movie detailing the most historic season in Nebraska basketball history is now available for the public to stream, after originally appearing only in select theaters. Watch and Dream focuses on the 2025-26 season and how the team grew and matured after its Crown championship in the spring of 2025. It is truly a movie with a runtime just over 2 hours, but it’s worth watching every minute.
- Not everything went perfectly for Nebraska on Monday. While the Huskers got offensive line commit Barrett Kitrell, they also lost out on 4-star OL prospect Kyler Kuhn. The Kansas City player committed to Missouri only minutes after Kitrell committed to the Cornhuskers.
- While the Nebraska Cornhuskers are busy celebrating their historic season, Michigan is playing damage control after losing head coach Dusty May. May, who won a national title with the Wolverines this season, is headed to the Dallas Mavericks immediately. In his place, the Big Ten rival has announced it’s hired Mike Boynton as his replacement.
