As EA Sports College Football 27 moves closer to release, the developers are teasing this year’s edition of the video game with little tidbits of information this week. On Tuesday, the release was the team ratings of every school in the sport. There’s some good news and bad news for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The good news is that Nebraska is rated No. 83 overall, which technically puts them 24th in the country. EA also believes that the offense, led by Anthony Colandrea, is the team's strength, with an 85 rating. The defense is at least good, if not great, with an 82 rating. That 85 offensive rating puts the Huskers on par with teams like Georgia and ahead of teams like Alabama.

The bad news is that the 83 overall rating has them sitting in a pack of teams that were simply not very good last year. Oklahoma State is the most notable team that was awful in 2025. Granted, with Colandrea in the Big Ten after a monster campaign in the Mountain West, the rating could go up if he can put together another great season. If Rob Aurich’s defense outperforms John Butler’s from last season, the rating could get another boost.

Matt Rhule’s rank isn’t great for Nebraska football

Earlier this week, Ari Wasserman released his rankings for every Big Ten coach, and Matt Rhule didn’t garner much respect. The On3 analyst ranked the NU coach as the 10th-best coach in the conference. That puts him behind several who are new to the conference, or at least have been in their positions fewer years than Rhule.

“We are still waiting for things to click for Rhule at Nebraska. Last season started with a ton of hope, but the wheels eventually fell off, most notably with the injury and transfer of high-profile quarterback Dylan Raiola,” Wasserman wrote.

“Rhule, though, came to Nebraska with a ton of success at Baylor and Temple, giving Cornhuskers faithful hope that he can turn around this program. The problem? Both turnarounds at Temple and Baylor happened by year three. We are now entering year four of Rhule’s reign at Nebraska, and the team is coming off a seven-win season.”

More Nebraska Cornhuskers news

  • Trae Taylor has done an incredible job of peer recruiting since committing to the Huskers. He’s also been a heck of a representative for the university. That continued on Tuesday night when a new video was released with the 5-star quarterback talking about his journey to Nebraska and why he chose them.
  • Nebraska has been on a tear in June on the recruiting front. Of the 21 commits it has in the 2027 class, 11 pulled the trigger this month. The Huskers could also start July on a great note as defensive back Amauri “Bam” Whitfield will announce his school on July 6. While he’s long been considered a heavy lean to the Florida Gators, rumblings indicate that the Cornhuskers are gaining momentum.
  • Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May abruptly departed the Wolverines earlier this week. On Tuesday, he said goodbye, but that didn’t help the players who signed up for his basketball camp. They thought they were getting coached by a National Champion coach. Now there’s someone else standing in. The Nebraska Cornhuskers, on the other hand, have gotta be happy he’s gone.
