Not only have the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team managed to post consecutive winning seasons for the first time in more than a decade, but there are some players who are starting to stand out and catch the eye of national analysts. TJ Lateef impressed everyone with his performance in his first collegiate start. But it was Emmett Johnson's more than 200 total yards against UCLA that really grabbed attention.

Johnson is second in the nation in rushing and leads the country in total yardage. He also won Big Ten offensive player of the week and has suddenly started getting mentioned as an All-American and even a very dark horse Heisman candidate.

Tim Beck has a title contender on his hands

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers offensive coordinator Tim Beck is now the head coach at Coastal Carolina. In his third year with the Chanticleers, he started the year on the hotseat. However, with four straight wins, he has his team at 6-3 and two wins away from making the Sun Belt Title Game.

The only problem is that if Beck wants to get his team into the title game, he'll have to beat James Madison, a team that is not only 2-0 against him but has beaten his squad by a combined 95-21 in the last two seasons.

  • TJ Lateef has been a big topic of conversation since his first collegiate start ended with his first win. He performed quite well in the game but it was how he interacted with offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen that got headlines Monday. A video of his hugging Holgorsen after the first drive was a touchdown got people hyped.
  • Lateef's Nebraska Cornhuskers teammates are happy about how the quarterback performed in his first start, but they're also plenty excited to see what he does when they play Penn State in a few weeks.
