Former Nebraska football offensive coordinator Tim Beck has had quite an interesting career. He was almost universally disliked when he was running Bo Pelini's offense, as it never really produced a unit that struck much fear into opponents. He was on the hot seat at Coastal Carolina earlier this year. And now, they're legitimate contenders for a Sun Belt title.

Since taking over at the Sun Belt school, Beck's records haven't been as sparkling as his predecessor Jamey Chadwell's were. However, one consistent part of Beck's version of the Chanticleers' seasons is that they get hot towards the end of the year.

This season, Coastal started the campaign with a 2-3 record but has since won four straight games, all against Sun Belt opponents. With three games to go in 2025, the Chanticleers control their own destiny in the Sun Belt East.

The former Nebraska coach has his current team sitting at 5-1 in the conference, a full game ahead of the East division's third-place team, Old Dominion, and a game behind James Madison, who currently has a spotless 6-0 record in the Sun Belt.

However, suppose both JMU and CCU win their penultimate conference games this weekend. In that case, the winner of the game between the two schools in the final weekend of the regular season will win their division, as Coastal will have the tiebreaker with identical conference records.

Granted, the ex-Nebraska football coach has his work cut out for him, even if they do beat Georgia Southern this Saturday and stand ready to take on James Madison on November 29. Things haven't gone well for the Chanticleers under Tim Beck. Last season, JMU won the matchup 39-7, and the year before, the Dukes won 56-14.
