If the Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team wants to keep its season going into the regionals, they took their first real step in that direction by winning a weekend series against Purdue and clinching a berth in the Big Ten tournament. Coming into Saturday, there was still some doubt as to whether or not they’d make it in after a bullpen meltdown on Friday night.

NU run-ruled the Boilermakers 14-2 in eight innings at Alexander Field in an exclamation-point effort that secured a sixth league series win in its last seven tries. They finish the season tied with Rutgers and Penn State for 8th in the conference and will get the No. 8 seed in the tournament as they own the tiebreakers over both teams.

That means the Nebraska Cornhuskers will play in Game 3 on the tournament’s first day on May 20 at 7pm. Because this is pool play and not the usual double elmiination tournament B1G fans are used to, the Huskers will then play top seeded Oregon on May 23 in the final game of Pool A. Then on May 24, Pool A’s winner will take on Pool D’s winner. With the championship game set for May 25.

Jordy Bahl leads the Nebraska Cornhuskers to regional final

After watching SE Lousiana knock off LSU in the first round of the Baton Rouge regionals, Husker fans might have been nervous they would run into a cinderella buzzsaw. So far so good for Saturday as Jordy Bahl once again led NU to a big win and they’re now in the regional finals.

Bahl tied the school record for home runs in a single season with 22 and the way she’s hitting, it would certainly seem likely she’ll finish this year’s campaign with the Nebraska Cornhuskers record all by herself.

The Huskers also got some good news on Saturday night when LSU lost to its in-state rival for a second time, knocking them out of their own regional That means Nebraska gets to take on the No. 4 team in the group with a trip to the Super Regionals on the line. They also have a margin of error, being the only undefeated team left. Should they not win the 2 p.m. contest, they’ll get another chance.

Brice Williams credits Fred Hoiberg

Brice Williams recently showed the NBA that he can definitely hang at the level. And after he scored 24 points in the latest combine scrimmage, he talked about how the Nebraska Cornhuskers helped to develop him into the man he is today.

Considering you’re talking about a guy that was one of the best players in the Big Ten. That’s the kind of thing the Nebraska Cornhuskers can lean on in coming years when recruiting.
