One of the most contentious factors in this era of college sports and NIL and the transfer portal is that it’s hard to know exactly who to credit and how much credit they deserve when a player goes to the next level. However, count Nebraska basketball star Brice Williams as knowing exactly who and how much to credit. He’s all about giving Huskers head coach Fred Hoiberg for developing him into a guy who might get drafted into the NBA.

Williams spoke after going through some NBA Draft combine activities and games about his college career. That career started at Charlotte and then finished up in Nebraska. His final season in Lincoln was easily his best as he turned into someone that could be a real threat as a professional basketball player.

Brice Williams says Fred Hoiberg helped transform him into an NBA draft hopeful

The former Nebraska basketball star specifically credited Hoiberg with helping turn him into the player that he is today.

I definitely got out of it what I was hoping for, and I definitely got out of it what I put in,” Williams said. “It was a lot of hard work, but it wasn’t without the help of my coaches at Charlotte and at Nebraska. But I felt like when I got to Nebraska, I took major leaps and bounds in my development, and also what the scouts saw in me. It was a good, educated move for me, and it turned out to work in my favor.”

Like he did with the Huskers, Williams seems to be adapting quickly to play at the NBA level. After struggling and shooting 0-8 in his first scrimmage at the 2025 NBA Combine, his second was much better.

The guard scored a game-high 24 points on 7-12 FG, 4-9 3PT, and 6-6 FTs. Now the former Nebraska basketball star will get to wait and wonder and see if he’s done enough, paired with a career that showed he’s become a better scorer, will get him to the NBA.
