The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team might have backed into the Big Ten tournament thanks to some help from other teams, but head coach Will Bolt can’t be feeling great about how his team played on Friday night. Especially a bullpen that’s had some issues throughout the season.
After a two-hour-long rain delay, the Huskers and Purdue Boilermakers restarted a game that NU led 4-3. They took that lead into the 9th inning when Jalen Worthley, who hadn’t pitched in about a month, surrendered a 2-run home run with two out to lose the game, 5-4.
Some things still need to be sorted out, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers are in the Big Ten tournament. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Bolt still doesn’t have this team playing like one capable of going on any kind of run.
Nebraska Cornhuskers softball gets a big win and then some help
While the baseball team is still looking for some big wins, the Nebraska softball team not only took care of business with a 10-2 victory in the opening game of their regionals over UCONN, but they also got an unexpected visitor in the winner’s bracket.
The win over the Huskies was big enough. Jordy Bahl once again led the team (2-for-2 with two homers and 5 RBI and 3 Innings of shutout ball) on its way to domination. Still, with LSU’s upset 4-3 loss to Southeastern Louisiana, they’ll face off against the No. 4 seed in the Baton Rouge regional on Saturday at noon with a chance to get to Sunday’s game undefeated.
Jacory Barney getting a new number?
Since head coach Matt Rhule took over, the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team has had a tradition of handing out single-digit numbers to team leaders. After Jacory Barney posted a picture on his Instagram stories about wearing the No. 2, fans wondered if he might have already gotten the word he was getting a new number. This will be something to watch this summer and fall.
