The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team has a chance to further cement its chances to host a regional bid if it can not only win a weekend series that starts on Friday against Penn State but also pull off the sweep. While that might feel like a tall order most years, the Huskers are 8-1 in the Big Ten and are an impressive 12-0 at home.
The series in Lincoln this weekend could also help NU strengthen its spot near the top of the Big Ten standings. Penn State, meanwhile, is just 3-6 in the conference and 8-18 overall.
While the Nebraska Cornhuskers are battling one of the bottom-feeders in the Big Ten, the top team in the conference, UCLA has a weekend series against third-place USC. The Huskers will be hoping for the Trojans to win the series, but not necessarily pull off the sweep.
More Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- The Nebraska basketball team has wrapped up its season and has turned its attention to the Transfer Portal. Earlier this week, one potential target to replace the loss of big man Rienk Mast materialized: Thomas Dowd. The irony there is that Dowd played for Troy, which the Huskers beat in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Trojans' new head coach is also now Adam Howard, who was Fred Hoiberg's assistant for three years before moving to North Carolina State this season.
- The Nebraska Cornhuskers women's basketball team is also looking to reload and rebuild for another tournament run next season. This week, there's been quite a lot of coming and going as Amy Williams reshapes her roster. Among those staying are the coach's daughter, Kennadi Williams, and 2024-25 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Natalie Potts. Among those going are Petra Bozan and Jessica Petrie.
- One proposal the Big Ten is considering regarding revenue sharing could affect multiple Nebraska sports. The retention rule would allow teams to exceed the revenue-sharing cap to retain players currently on the roster. This proposal is similar to the NBA's Bird Rights and would allow NU to compete with the big boys.
- More good news for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team came in the form of top target Ahmad Hudson locking in an official visit. The Ruston, Louisiana, tight end and center had to cancel two unofficial visits this spring, and that made some fans wonder if he was souring on the Huskers. However, now that he's coming to Lincoln for sure from June 12 to June 14, those same fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
