The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team looked like it was suffering from a bit of a hangover from Friday night. That was the night when John Cook’s squad saw its 25-match win streak snapped.

On Saturday night, the Huskers came out to finish off their regular season schedule against a Maryland Terapins squad that likely didn’t now what hit it. One minute, the Terps were winning the first set, 27-25. The next they were getting overwhelmed by a team that can absolutely dominate any team in the country when they really turn it on.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers must have suddenly realized they didn’t want there to be a chance they could end their regular season without a share of the Big Ten title. They didn’t want to lose their last two matches of a season that was so magical. And so, they shifted into another gear.

NU took the second set 25-14 in what was essentially a “get right” match where the team could find its feet again and start to take over. Then they shifted into yet another gear and took the third set, 25-8.

Once it was clear that Maryland was done, the Huskers threw their final shovel of dirt on the grave and won the third set, 25-12. That allowed Cook’s squad to keep a share of the Big Ten title, though Penn State, thanks to their head-to-head win, will get the league’s automatic bid.

At 5pm Sunday, the Huskers will find out their seed and first round opponent. And then on Thursday, December 5, the real fun will begin for a Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball squad that won’t be content with anything less than a return trip to the National Tittle Game.
