The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team entered Sunday smarting a bit from being 10-runned by the Oregon State Beavers in the second game of their weekend series. Luckily, that rather ugly Saturday loss didn’t sting them enough that it brought them down.
Meanwhile, the Nebraska football team is working to hold onto one of its only 2026 commits. That prospect is headed out on official visits, despite still claiming to be sold on the Huskers.
Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball gets massive win over Oregon State
After wining the opening game of the series against No. 5 Oregon State, and losing on Saturday, Sunday was the rubber match. It was a big one for a Nebraska Cornhuskers team that needed to knock off a Top 10 team to keep its at-large chances going.
The two teams seesawed back and forth on Sunday afternoon, which each program looking like they had the upper hand at one time or another. The Huskers took a 6-3 lead late, and then coughed that lead back up, falling behind 7-6.
However, the Nebraska baseball team never said die. The Huskers scored a whopping 9 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. That would be impressive against any squad, but to do it against the No. 5 team in the country?

The Cornhuskers ended up winning 16-7 and winning the series in the process. Just in case you think that wasn’t a big win, keep in mind that Nebraska jumped a whopping 50 spots in the RPI ratings, from 127, to 77. In other words, they are now officially at least in the conversation for an at-large bid, should they start winning Big Ten series.
Jacory Barney taking on leadership role
With a bunch of new wide receivers on the Nebraska football team, the coaches are looking for leaders. Soon-to-be-sophomore Jacory Barney wants to do the job.
"I do got to continue to bring the energy and let those guys feed off me and get all of us to have that attack mindset," Barney said earlier this week. The energy he’s talking about, that he’s bringing juice to practice has been noticed.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team will only be better if he does grow into a leader of the room.
