It’s hard to say that any game is a “must win” in March, but the Nebraska baseball team is in a precarious position. The Huskers have started the year off at the bottom of the Big Ten and haven’t been all that great in non-conference games.
That’s why a series win against the No. 5 Oregon State Beavers is as close to a “must win” as possible if the Cornhuskers want to have any chance of getting an at-large bid to the postseason, assuming they can right the ship and start winning some Big Ten contests.
Nebraska baseball topples Top 5 opponent on Friday night
On Friday night, the Nebraska baseball team got the job done. Now it’s time to come out Saturday and secure a series win. And then of course, we can start talking about really making some noise, should all go well.
The Nebraska baseball team’s 7-3 win was impressive for a number of reasons. For one, there was some pretty nifty pitching in the middle of the innings when Oregon State cashing in might have changed the entire feel of the game.
Starting pitcher Will Walsh fired a quality outing and the offense threatened throughout as the Huskers bagged their first win over a top-five opponent since toppling No. 1 Arkansas in a 2021 NCAA regional. It marked their first top-five home win since beating UCLA in 2011.
The Nebraska baseball team (11-14) will try to claim the series Saturday with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m. Oregon State (19-5) arrived in Lincoln a winner in 13 of its last 14 games. If there’s one factor that might make the next two games even more interesting, it’s weather that could extremely iffy.
