The Nebraska Cornhuskers softball team learned where it will start its attempt at marching to the Women’s College World Series. After losing to UCLA in the Big Ten Tournament, the Huskers had to wait and make sure they got an at-large bid. Because they’re very, very good, they did make it.
NU is headed to the Baton Rouge regional to first take on UCONN on Friday, May 16, at 2 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised on ESPN+ and on the other side of this regional, LSU will take on Southeastern Louisiana. This is the second time Nebraska has gone to the Baton Rouge regional and they went 1-2 a decade ago.
Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball in line for Big Ten tourney
While the softball team is officially bound for regionals, the Nebraska baseball team still has some work to do to realy even dream on an at-large bid. The first step is wining as many games as possible to close out the year.
The added degree of difficulty is that they also still have to worry about even making the Big Ten Tournament. After taking two of three from Michigan this weekend, they are currently sitting at No. 9 in the standings. The Top 12 teams make the conference tournament.
The Huskers are 26-26 on the season and have one more weekend to show they deserve to be considered for the postseason, or get hot enough to go on a run. They’ll face off against Purdue next weekend. Sitting at 10-17 in the B1G, the Boilermakers don’t have anything to play for but playing spoiler.
Ian Flynt headed to the ACC
There was a time when Ian Flynt was a very interesting tight end commit. This year, the Nebraska football coaches thought he might be even more interesting on the defensive line. It doesn’t appear he wanted to find out.
Instead, Flynt entered the portal this spring and this weekend announced he’d picked North Carolina State as his new landing spot.
Dylan Raiola gets big praise from Pat McAfee
While some think (cough Pete Thamel) that Dylan Raiola’s true freshman season with the Nebraska Cornhuskers wasn’t all that impressive, ESPN talking head Pat McAfee disagrees. Recently the podcaster talked effusively about how much he likes the NU quarterback, calling him a real rising star.
