Nebraska basketball wastes a career night from Juwan Gary in 5th straight loss

The Nebraska basketball team's season appears to be on the brink when it comes to the NCAA Tournament.

The Nebraska basketball team’s season is officially on the brink. On Thursday night, the Huskers took on the USC trojans in what certainly seems like a must win game, especially considering NU’s next three opponents.

Unfortunately, Fred Hoiberg’s squad could not win the must win contest. They got close. They lost to the Trojans 78-73 but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades and that’s especially true when talking about a Nebrasketball team that has lost five straight games, and lost two in row at home for the first time since February of 2022.

The Nebraska basketball team adjusted some things that were problems in the previous four losses. USC didn’t kill the Huskers with the three point shot. They hit just 6-of-21 shots from beyond the arc. However, they were more successful down low. And (stop me if you’ve heard this before) the Huskers couldn’t get a defensive stop when they needed it most.

Nebraska basketball wastes Juwan Gary’s career night

It wasn’t hard to see why the Cornhuskers fell short on Thursday night. While Juwan Gary scored a career high 27 points, he didn’t get much help.

As a team, they were just 5-for-24 from 3-point land, Brice Williams scored 17, Connor Essegian scored 15, and no other Husker scored more than 6 points.

Now, with the loss, the Nebraska basketball team will face off against three straight Top 25 opponents and eight straight losses seems not only realistic but likely.

The season has taken a turn. If Fred Hoiberg and company want to turn things around, they need to do it immediately. It just doesn’t appear that’s in the cards right now.
