The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team is about to shift into another gear. The team just wrapped up its non-conference schedule and is about to start playing a Big Ten schedule that will be a bit tougher with Oreogn, USC, UCLA and Washington now in the conference.
Just ahead of the conference schedule, head coach Fred Hoiberg talked about what he sees the team needs to do in order to get better. Unsurprisingly, rebounding is the key and he even has a number in his head of where he wants his team to go.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers need to improve on the rebound side in order to win the number of games Hoiberg and the Husker faithful want to see them win.
Nebraska Cornhuskers need to improve rebounding to make head coach happy
“Got to get better on the glass," Hoiberg said after the game. "They got 17 (offensive boards), but they missed a lot of shots. I think it's about 30 percent, that's the number. We want to keep them under 30 percent on on their offensive rebound percentage. So clean that up. Clean the turnovers up. And hopefully we'll have chance to have a good season."
"Our defense has to be our constant. We're not a real pretty team, obviously. So defense has to be our calling card," Hoiberg added. "Every time we step on the floor, that has to be what gets us going. And we had a little bit of a rhythm. We shot the ball, I think we made 13 threes. But if we go out there and guard like we have been, then we're going to have a chance to win most nights that we step on the floor."
The Nebraska Cornhuskers will be looking to improve a bit each game. Their next contest comes against the UCLA Bruins.
