Nebraska basketball is moving quickly to  Transfer Portal commitments. While the Huskers have only forward Sam Orme officially locked in, they're expected to land a commitment from another forward, former Boston College starter Boden Kapke. And then there's former Illinois State guard Ty'Reek Coleman.

Coleman took a two-day trip to Lincoln on Tuesday and Wednesday. While that's certainly a nice first step, it's not clear just when the 6-foot-2 player might be choosing his next school. According to Sam Kayser, he took a visit to Kansas State on Sunday and Monday. He's then expected to visit Utah State on Thursday and Friday. He's then expected to visit Iowa next week.

On the one hand, Nebraska getting a visit at all is an important first step. However, the Huskers aren't exactly reeling in a ton of prospects; they're aiming for just yet. Other schools have nearly closed out their entire portal class with higher-profile players.

While he's still a bit under the radar, Ty'Reek Coleman is a rising star. As a freshman at Illinois State, the guard averaged 10 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while playing in 35 contests and starting 19. His performance throughout the year also helped him earn conference freshman of the week recognition multiple times.

He shot 50.4% from the floor, 41.6% from three-point range, and 70.2% from the free throw line. Coleman scored in double figures in 15 games, including 22 points against Murray State and a season-high 24 points against Cornell.

Coleman certainly looks like a decent replacement on the roster for Jamarques Lawrence, especially if Nebraska can land a point guard who might be a bit more "pass first" like Utah Valley's Trevan Leonhardt.

While Illinois State finished just third in the MVC, Coleman showed he can hold his own against Major Conference teams. Coleman and his squad advanced to the NIT semifinals, where they fell to the eventual NIT champion, the Auburn Tigers. Coleman scored 17 points and knocked down a trio of 3-pointers.

Nebraska would love to close out the race for Ty'Reek Coleman with a win, but the battle for the talented young guard is far from over.
