The Nebraska basketball team is fresh off the CBC Tournament title and head coach Fred Hoiberg is continuing to rack up wins. He’s also continuing to rebuild a roster that is losing its two best players in Brice Williams and Juwan Gary.
Entering today, Hoiberg’s roster rebuild included Iowa forward Pryce Sandfort, who most people saw coming almost right from when he first entered the portal. They then added an “out-of-nowhere” transfer in All-MAC big man Ugnius Jarusevicius. And then this morning the Huskers managed to grab a former player who just entered the portal after leaving Nebraska last spring.
Jamarques Lawrence announced his return to the Nebraska basketball program with a social media post that featured two words: “I’m back.” It comes just a few days after Lawrence entered the portal. He spent the 2024-25 season with Rhode Island Rams, starting 31 games and averaging 9.9 points, 2.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 41.8% from the field and a career-best 39.1% on an average of 4.9 3-point attempts per game.

Lawrence also finished the season rather strongly, averaging 11.2 points per game in his final 12 games. He also shot 45% from 3 (26-of-58) during that stretch.
He transferred out of the Nebraska basketball team last year after spending several seasons as the team’s sixth man. Looking for a chance to start with Rhode Island he made the most of it, and will likely be the odds-on favorite to start for the Huskers next winter.
