As the Nebraska basketball team works to restock its roster for the 2025-26 season, one of the guys that left after last season could be making a return. A former Husker has jumped back into the portal after leaving following the 2023-2024 campaign.

While the Huskers are turning over every rock out there in order to try and land players, including one that spent the past few seasons just an hour up the road, there might be some mutual interest between NU and guard Jamarques Lawrence.

Lawrence spent the last season with the Rhode Island Rams but he is back in the transfer portal as of earlier this week. Robin Washut of On3 says that the Nebraska basketball team has reached out to the guard to see if he might like to return to Lincoln and give it another go.

Nebraska basketball reaches out to familiar face as roster rebuild continues

Lawrence played two seasons with the Huskers where he was one of the top sixth man. He appeared in 62 games and started 35. In the 2023-24 season he was invaluable as a point guard off the bench, scoring 6.9 points and dishing out 2.5 assists per game.

Unfortunately for Fred Hoiberg and company, who could have used a top point guard this year, he left for Rhode Island looking to be guaranteed a starting spot. For the rams, he averaged 9.9 points and 2.5 assists and is now apparently looking to play for a Power Conference team.

That’s where the Nebraska basketball team comes in. Or at least might come in. This one is certainly an interesting situation.
