Nebraska Basketball transfer portal weekend: 3 visits could spark roster rebuild
When it comes to rebuilding the Nebraska Basketball roster for the 2024-25 season, there may be no more important weekend than the one currently taking place. The Huskers are having themselves quite a transfer portal kind of weekend and are hoping to make some big strides in adding talented players to the new-look team.
The Nebraksa Basketball entered the weekend with five openings, having already filled one hole with the commitment of Andrew Morgan. If things go right, the visits the Huskers are hosting over this three-year period could be big gets.
Nebraska Basketball hosting a Utah transfer target
Right at the top of the list of who the Cornhuskers are trying to land to rebuild Hoiberg’s Heroes is former Utah Ute, Rollie Worster. The 6-foot-4, 204-pound graduate transfer has one season of eligibility remaining and has been a fixture starter for Utah. However, he suffered an injury this past season and appeared in just 16 games.
The guard could be the true point the Nebraska Basketball team was missing all of last season. Before he was hurt, Worster averaged 9.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. He’s not a big scorer, but he looks to pass first. That could be a great addition to Nebraska.
It’s hard to get a read on where Worster might go at this point, but it’s worth pointing out that he played at Utah under former Nebraska Basketball assistant coach Craig Smith. Smith worked under Tim Miles. There’s obviously not a Fred Hoiberg tie here but Smith could be saying nice things about NU.
Sunday sees a top AAC forward coming to Lincoln
Also coming to Lincoln this week is Igor Milicic, who was third-team All-AAC this past season at Charlotte. Milicic averaged 12.8 points and 8.5 rebounds for the 49ers after transferring from Virginia earlier in his career.
The Nebraska Basketball program will try and make a very nice impact as Milicic has two more visits planned this week. He’ll also be seeing Tennessee and Baylor and is then expected to make a final call.
Gavin Griffiths moving to another Big Ten team?
The third visitor this weekend has already come and gone. Rutgers guard Gavin Griffiths was in town on Friday. The 6-foot-8 guard out of Connecticut is a former 4-star prospect who appeared in all 32 games for the Scarlet Knights but averaged just 17 minutes a game.
Griffiths visited Providence last week and has reportedly received interest from Illinois, Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. At the moment, there’s no time frame on when he might announce but the Nebraska Basketball team is said to be a frontrunner.
