After months of wondering and waiting whether Jamarques Lawrence would take the step, the former Nebraska basketball star has officially added his name to a lawsuit against the NCAA. As has been the case with so many of the lawsuits, one that's recently filed seeks an injunction allowing players who just used up their fifth year of eligibility to play in 2026.
The suit, as most of the other ones have been, was about the NCAA's new 5-for-5 eligibility rule. Lawrence joins several other players who believe they should have been included in the rule and allowed to come back. When the rule was first floated, and before it was made official, Lawrence expressed interest in examining the idea of another season in Lincoln.
One lawsuit after another has won an injunction against the NCAA, and there's been some question about why the former Nebraska basketball star hadn't joined a suit yet. There was some question as to whether he might be ready to be done with the college game.
The lawsuits filed have been growing larger over the last few months. The one that Lawrence joined involved 45 players. It also comes just a few days after the NCAA made it clear it's not going to stop fighting the issue.

There had been some talk the the organization might loosen its stance considering how many judges have ruled against it at this point. In order to make a point against those that keep filing these suits, the NCAA specifically came out and said they won't be relaxing their policies in order to avoid other players from feeling as though it was the wild west.
The question now is whether Jamarques Lawrence will come back to Nebraska basketball if and when he does win this injunction. He did enter the transfer portal when the window was open just in case, but it's possible the Huskers could find a way to get him back on the roster.
