The Nebraska basketball team has had some rather up and down seasons when it comes to Big Ten play. But there is one fact that has stayed pretty consistent over the last few years. The Huskers absolutely own the Indiana Hoosiers. That could change in 2025, as IU ushers in a new head coach.
Midway through the season, the Hoosiers announced that head coach Mike Woodson would step down at the end the campaign. He did just that, almost getting his squad to the NCAA Tournament but now it’s time to turn the page.
Earlier this week, the Nebraska basketball rival program announced it had hired Darian DeVries as it’s next head coach. In the process, DeVries is bringing over one of the best players in the Big 12, at least once the transfer portal opens on Monday.
Nebraska basketball rival has itself a new coach
Devries was able to take the job quickly because his old squad, the West Virginia Mountaineers missed the NCAA Tournament despite the fact that most experts thought they were a shoe-in to get into the Big Dance.
Devries spent just one year at West Virginia after coaching the previous six with Drake. He led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament in each of his last two seasons there.
Devries will certainly be familiar with the Nebraska basketball program when the two teams face off in 2025-26. Before being named the head coach at Drake in 2018, he spent the previous 17 years as an assistant coach at Creighton. He’ll attempt to reverse Indiana’s four game losing streak to the Huskers that spans two seasons.
