Congratulations to the Nebraska baseball team for securing a Regional tournament. It’s not easy and it hasn’t happened around here since 2008. However, if you’re thinking it is just another day at the ballpark, you are sadly misinformed. Game 1 is Friday at 3pm versus South Dakota State Jackrabbits. I read online that the cheapest ticket price is $144. That's probably for the berm, too. You have also probably read about the season ticket holder backlash. To sum it up, they are unhappy they don’t get their same seats offered to them for the Regional games.
The cold hard facts are that postseason college baseball is not about the fans or the loyal season ticket holders. It’s all about the corporate dollar and the NCAA getting their fingers into your wallet. This is nothing new. Just talk to those perennial CWS teams from the SEC and they will let you in on how it works.
If you need further explanation, look at the College World Series. When they moved the tournament from Rosenblatt to downtown it was a true corporate takeover. To their credit, they did give the past season ticket holders a chance to renew their seats, but you were automatically moved down the row (or to a new side) because they made the really good seats available to the corporate, VIP and NCAA people. If you volunteered to spend more money and buy Creighton baseball tickets, you weren’t shoved as far down but that wasn’t disclosed in the fine print.
It’s a shame when people who aren’t familiar with the event get to make all the decisions. This is where I would write about the fact the stadium is turned the wrong way, but I don’t like to elevate my blood pressure. Gone are the friendly backyard environments of Rosenblatt and the friendly walk around the ballpark to catch up with all the regulars. It’s just different than it used to be and they call that change. I might call it a racket.

Nebraska baseball fans get a harsh NCAA reminder as Lincoln regional arrives
Regardless, at the end of the day there is still baseball. It’s expen$ive college ba$seball but that’s the postseason game. When deciding whether you have to buy the app to watch the game or whether you take out a loan to attend it, it’s all going to cost. The key is to make sure you meet up with your friends so that the fun you get to experience cheering on your team is still a thing.

Nebraska has a very tough draw. Both Ole Miss and Arizona State could be considered 2 seeds. And if the Huskers survive the Regional, they most likely would play Auburn who is considered one of the locks for the CWS. Nevertheless, in baseball the last team, and worst ranked team can win it all so why not the Big Red. (The Cornhusker roster is far from being the worst team.) They will for sure have the home crowd. See you at the ballpark and GO BIG RED!
