Is this the Nebraska baseball team finally turning the corner? Are we about to see Will Bolt’s squad play its best just as the regular season starts to wind down? There would be worse times for the never say die attitude the team showed last year in the Big Ten tourney to show up.

Fresh off a series win over Maryland that included one game where they scored 20 runs, the Huskers looked an awful lot like the same mediocre at best team we’ve seen far too often during midweek games. It also looked like they were about to get swept in the season series against former Big 12 rival Kansas State after the Wildcats won the the first matchup this year 9-6 and the rematch, 12-8.

Nebraska baseball stuns Kansas State with late rally to walk off win

But then something clicked. With Nebraska down 6-4 entering the 9th inning, the Cornhuskers managed to rally in their last at bat.

When Gabe Swansen came to the plate, the Huskers were still down two runs and were looking at their final out. However, they did have the bases loaded and someone who has played hero plenty of times in his Nebraska career.

On the first pitch Swansen saw, he ripped a double down the third base line that cleared the bases and allowed Nebraska to walk off with the 7-6 win.

Being a non-conference game, and with the Huskers still under .500 on the season, the victory doesn’t change much when it cames to the narrative this season and how NU will need to make the postseason.

But it does serve as a shot in the arm at a time of the season when the Nebraska baseball team needs to rack up as many wins as possible. Next up is a weekend series against Minnesota.
