The Nebraska Cornhuskers are back on track after securing a double-digit victory over the Michigan State Spartans, and a lot of that is due to senior defensive back DeShon Singleton, who had the game of his lifetime in the Big Ten matchup.
A few days later, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule was still singing his praises for Singleton, sharing that while he's great on the field, the veteran defensive back is great off the field as well.
Against the Spartans, Singleton earned six total tackles (four solo), two interceptions for seven yards, and one fumble recovery, quite literally leading the Cornhuskers' defensive unit in the much-needed win.
"I'm so proud of DeShon [Singleton]... We put out the thing about him and his brother. It's just so great when you see good people do good things," Rhule said. "That's who DeShon is."
Rhule was referring to Singleton taking his younger brother (DJ Singleton Jr.) in, following some scary real-life moments for the young man, who is now a part of the Cornhuskers' roster as a redshirt freshman wide receiver.
While watching out and caring for his brother, Singleton has continued to excel for the Nebraska football program, which was showcased on Saturday against Michigan State.
Rhule joked that the elder Singleton should have scored on the plays where he brought down the interceptions and picked up the fumble, but he was clearly so proud of the player that he gets to work with every day.
So far this season, Singleton has earned 23 total tackles (12 solo), two interceptions, one pass deflection, and one fumble recovery. This is his fourth season playing for the Cornhuskers, and already, he is off to an unbelievable start.
This Saturday, Nebraska takes on the Maryland Terrapins (4-1 overall, 1-1 Big Ten) on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. CT. The conference matchup will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
