While the Nebraska baseball season hasn’t gone as well as fans might have expected, the series win over Oregon State this weekend has officially got people wondering how many teams are in the NCAA baseball tournament again.

The answer to that question might be a bit surprising, mainly because of the way the tournament is divided up. People don’t realize just how many squads make the postseason. As it turns out, it’s very, very similar to the number of teams who make March Madness.

How many teams are in the NCAA baseball tournament?

When talking about how many teams are in the NCAA baseball tournament, there’s the first round, which is called the NCAA Regionals. Then there’s the second round which is the Super Regionals, and then of course, there’s the College World series.

In order to make the regionals, the Nebraska baseball team will have to be one of 64 teams that make the postseason. Last year, they obviously made that round by winning the Big Ten Tournament. This year, they’re going to need to make quite the run, or they’ll hope to get an at-large bid.

There are 29 conferences that will each send one team as the automatic qualifier, leaving another 35 at-large bids. That is yet another reason why the Nebraska baseball team needed to take the series against the Oregon State Beavers.

While the answer to how many teams are in the NCAA baseball tournament is 64, but there are really only 35 spots that are open to anybody in the sport to rise up and take.
