Nebraska basketball head coach Fred Hoiberg has been working hard to quickly and competently rebuild his roster for what might be a make or break season starting this winter. With the commitment of Fridrik Leo Curtis on Wednesday morning, it looks as though the Cornhuskers coach might be done.

Curtis announced his commitment on social media, finishing off a recruiting run where the Huskers were pushing pretty hard. His commitment also gives NU a pretty international flavor heading into the 2025-26 season.

Fred Hoiberg adds Icelandic big man to finalize Huskers 2025 roster

Curtis, a 7-foot-1 center from Iceland who attends Cambridge Arts, Technology and Science Academy in Braintree, Massachusetts, gives the Nebraska basketball team depth on the interior and a boost in the youth on a roster built through the portal.

Because Curtis is a 2025 commit, he will be eligible to play immediately and joins Quentin Rhymes as the only freshmen on a roster that has added six players from the transfer portal this spring.

Curtis might have been a bit under the radar in spring recruiting circles, but he’s someone that power programs have been looking at for a while. He committed to Arizona State in January but reopened his recruitment in April. He held offers from Indiana, Creighton and West Virginia, among others and the Huskers were able to jump in and steal a talented big man.

As an added bonus, Curtis credited two former Nebraska players for steering him towards Lincoln. According to Robin Washut, Curtis said Thorir Thorbjarnarson and Matej Kavaš both told him that Hoiberg was a very good coach and that the youngster should end up there.

While it’s hard to know for sure just how much of an effect the international addition could be for the Huskers in 2025-26, he is indeed one of the more talented recruits Hoiberg has landed in recent seasons.

Fridrik Curtis is considered the No. 84 recruit in On3 rankings. He’s also someone who could fill up the lane for the Nebraska basketball season and learn behind guys like Rienk Mast in the early part of the campaign.
