While this weekend wasn’t a great one for Matt Rhule and company, Sunday morning was a very good one for the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball program. Fred Hoiberg and company are the beneficiaries of a brand new commitment.
Phoenix-area small forward Quentin Rhymes pulled the trigger on the Huskers basketball team on the heels of an official visit this weekend. There are a couple of reasons why the 2025 recruit’s deciding on NU is a big deal.
Quentin Rhymes is among the best Nebrasketball commits ever
Rhymes, who is originally from Las Vegas, is considered the 106th best recruit in his class by 247Sports composite ratings. Those ratings also have him sitting as the 25th best small forward in the 2025 prospect ranking and the 5th best player in the state of Arizona as a member of Hillcrest Prep.
It’s of course, worth pointing out that while Arizona is not a traditional Blue Chip land, the talent level in the state has been steadily climbing. In no small part to Hillcrest.
The big news. The thing that stands out the most is that according to 247Sports, he’s the 5th best high school recruit the Huskers have ever landed. Bryce McGowens, Glynn Watson, Wilhelm Breidenbach, and Ramel Lloyd Jr. are the only ones to rank higher since the site started tracking this sort of thing.
Nebraska Cornhuskers takes big step in building for the future
Huskers head coach Fred Hoiberg has been fairly successful when it comes to going into the transfer portal and building his team year after year in that fashion. The approach got them to the Big Dance last season.
However, Nebraska basketball is well aware that one of the best ways to build sustained success is to have plenty of success through the high school ranks. Rhymes is the first high school commit of the 2025 class. The 4-star prospect is one heck of a first get.
He slides into Nebraska basketball’s scheme with versatility
Count the newest Nebraska Cornhusker’s summer coach as someone who believes one of the reasons the team’s fans should be excited is because of all the places he can fit in Hoiberg’s system.
"I believe Quentin can thrive in a five out offense," Lamar Bigby said recently. "Rhymes can play the two, three or four in that system because of his size and frame."
The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team appears to have a lot to celebrate this Sunday.
