On Saturday, two former Nebraska football players did their best to show they can play with the best in the sport.

Ty Robinson and Thomas Fidone both took the field in the Senior Bowl and while neither had huge impacts on the game, both showed they could take advantage of their limited opportunities in the All-Star game for college players looking to impress scouts in the NFL.

Defensive back Tommi Hill joined Fidone and Robinson at the Senior Bowl, but the former Nebraska football star was injured during practice and ended up not playing in Saturday’s showcase. According to most who were in attendance, all three ex-Huskers showed that they can indeed hang with the best of their class and could see some serious interest once Draft Day comes around.

Ex-Nebraska football stars show out on Saturday’s Senior Bowl

Fidone and the American team took down Robinson's National squad 22-19 with a last-second, fourth-down touchdown catch by former TCU receiver Jack Bech. And while Fidone didn’t have a huge impact on offense (1 catch for 8 yards) he did show plenty of talent when it came to run blocking, including on one particular play where former Kansas running back Devin Neal broke a 9-yard run thanks to a lane the ex-Husker created.

Robinson’s impact didn’t include a sack or tackle, but he did have a quarterback hurry of former Notre Dame and Duke quarterback Riley Leonard. He also busted into the backfield on a play that ended with a five-yard loss. Though he wasn’t credited with the stop, it was clear his work make the play happen.

Now that the Senior Bowl is over, the former Nebraksa football players will hope they get an invite to the NFL scouting combine.
