It was clear when Scott Frost gave his first press conference of the new year that he still had his time with the Nebraska football program at the top of his mind. Earlier this month, he demonstrated the the high schools he got to know well as the Huskers’ head coach are front of mind as well.
Frost appears to remember that the state is providing record levels of FBS talent these days. He’s showing that recognition with an official offer to Norfolk Catholic’s Leighton Burbach.
Ex-Nebraska football coach comes calling for in-state talent
Burbach is one of those prospects that has so far fallen by the wayside for the Nebraska football program. He doesn’t have an offer from the Cornhuskers but UCF is one of a few FBS programs that have come calling.
After an amazing conversation with @coach_sclark I am blessed to receive an offer from the University of Central Florida!!! #ChargeOn⚔️🌴 #AGTG🙏🏼✝️@coach_frost @NCRedZone @MidwestFootbal1 @PrepRedzoneNE pic.twitter.com/yfstHTogB8

Burbach likely has teams coming calling, because the offensive tackle stands 6-foot-8 and has plenty of time before college to add some weight onto his 255 pound frame. That he’s rather slim, even for tackle is why he’s still not getting a ton of love from the biggest teams in the country, including the Huskers.
Nebraska football has a new recruiting rival in Scott Frost
Burbach does have offers from Iowa State and Northwestern. Washington State has come calling as well. But it’s the UCF offer that really stands out for more than just the fact that it’s another Big 12 team interested in his services.
Now, more than ever before, it feels like the Nebraska football team is having to turn its back on some of the best talent in the state. The 105-player roster limit that is coming this fall is forcing head coach Matt Rhule to make tough decisions. Scott Frost is uniquely suited to take advantage of the situation thanks to his Husker ties.
