The Nebraska football team is ramping up its recruiting this weekend as it looks to make the summer a long period of nothing but wins for Matt Rhule and company. Hosting camps for some of the best players in the 2026 and 2027 classes, one name stuck out as joining the fun on Sunday. Donovan McNabb Jr., son of legendary NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb, came to Lincoln on Sunday to see what the Cornhuskers have to offer.
Rhule and his staff first started talking to McNabb earlier this spring, and they got their foot in the door along with several other Power 4 programs that have suddenly started looking harder at the Brophy College Preparatory (Phoenix, AZ) 3-star prospect.
Donovan McNabb Jr. visits Nebraska camp as fast-rising 2027 WR target gains national buzz
McNabb Jr is following in his father’s footsteps in choosing the same sport but won’t be under center during his college days. Instead, the younger McNabb wants to play wide receiver at the next level. Nebraska football would undoubtedly love to see him catching passes from the Raiolas or recent quarterback commit Trae Taylor when the 2027 target hits campus.
Getting the pass catcher to Lincoln is undoubtedly a big step in the right direction, but Nebraska has its work cut out for it. Arizona, Minnesota, Syracuse, and Washington are among the Power 4 programs that came calling.
It stands to reason that the prospect will keep rising when he plays his junior season, as he had a modest 9 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown in his sophomore campaign.
However, his family genes and 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash have brought him plenty of attention. Once he steps into a bigger role for his high school team, more colleges will almost certainly come calling for Donovan McNabb Jr. Now, the Nebraska football team has made a big impression by having him in camp.
