While Matt Rhule is playing his own brand of "Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? " It's important to point out that he and his Nebraska football staff are doing a heck of a job recruiting. And while those efforts haven't landed a ton of recruits, that could be changing very soon.

The Huskers already hauled in Trae Taylor and Jase Reynolds over the last few weeks. Now they're in good standing for Camren Hamiel, a 4-star defensive back with NU among his final four, alongside some of the best power programs in the country.

Nebraska football trending for 4-star DB Camren Hamiel as summer decision nears

Late last week, Hamiel named the Nebraska football team, along with Penn State, Oregon, and Texas A&M, as a finalist for his services. However, it gets better than that. There are also some indications that the Cornhuskers are the leaders in the clubhouse, even if no recruiting expert is willing to make an official prediction.

Not long after the 4-star defensive back out of Goodyear (Ariz.) Desert Edge named the four teams he's still considering; the Huskers jumped in front of Oregon as the team to beat. It is technically the second time he's been considered the favorite this year, though that has moved around a bit from month to month.

The talented defensive back's fate should depend on his official visits. He's got several set for this month and next, starting with Penn State on May 16. He'll then visit Lincoln on June 6, Oregon on June 13, and Texas A&M on June 20.

All signs point to Camren Hamiel pulling the trigger on his commitment shortly thereafter. He's one of the many who has expressed interest in committing before his focus turns to his final season of high school football. With the Nebraska football team in a good spot, it will be all about closing the deal and keeping some of the best teams in the country at bay.
