Nebraska has rarely seen a commitment as iron-clad and loyal as Trae Taylor, and now the 2027 quarterback is showing just how committed he is to the Huskers by transferring in to play his high school senior year in the state.
Since Taylor committed to NU, he's fought off rumors that he might eventually flip. Some thought he might eventually decide to go to Illinois. It's safe to say the idea that he'd have a change of heart is completely dead as of Wednesday morning.
After putting together a dominant junior year at Carmel Catholic in Illinois, Trae Taylor will transfer into Nebraska and play final high school season at Millard South. In explaining why he decided to make the transfer, the 4-star quarterback said the initial focus is to help the Huskers recruit top talent to the school.
Trae Taylor moves in-state to accelerate Nebraska recruiting and development
"The original thought was to be there to focus on helping peer recruit. I didn’t want to miss any of the guys that we will need," Taylor told Rivals analyst Greg Smith.
"Next with me being an early enrollee I figured why wait when I’d be in Lincoln most of the weekends anyways and multiple NIL things have been brought to me. But I couldn’t because of the schedule to get back to Lincoln. Lastly, on game days I can get way more time with coaches. I can dig into the playbook to have a better understanding before I even enroll."
The quarterback has often talked about improving his relationship with the Husker coaching staff, and now he'll be able to do it from right next door.
"Our relationship is only going to continue to grow and I really can't say anything else than, 'Man, they are amazing. They're amazing people. They're amazing coaches.' I think they're the best in the business and that's why I went there. That's why I committed to Nebraska," he told 247Sports earlier this year.
Taylor also brings a very talented quarterback to one of the best high school teams in Nebraska, Millard South. The move is a win-win for all involved and further locks down a commitment that's sparked a 2027 recruiting class that's solidly in the Top 10 early on.
