The Nebraska football team capped off their season with a hard-fought 20-15 victory over Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl. A rainy afternoon at Yankee Stadium set the stage for a game that turned into a defensive showdown, with both teams battling through adversity and on a grass field that was a mess from the outset.

The Cornhuskers relied on timely plays from their defense and a balanced offensive attack to edge out the Eagles. Nebraska’s defensive line, anchored by astandout performances from Ty Robinson, consistently pressured Boston College quarterback Grayson James, who did manage to make some big plays with his arm and his feet.

The Nebraska football team took a 20-2 lead thanks to that dominant defense, but struggled to hold on in the fourth quarter, 20-15. In the end, the Huskers managed to close the door thanks to a big 4th down run by Rahmir Johnson that garnered a first down.

Boston College coach happy with effort against Nebraska football

After the game, Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien spoke highly of his team’s resilience despite the loss.

“Yeah, I learned — there were a lot of guys that played today that hadn’t played that much, and I really respected the effort that they played with," he said. "You had guys like Kevin Cline and Eryx Daugherty, Ryan Mickow, Dwayne Allick had to go to center. Then there were guys on defense, obviously, that played a lot, Ashton McShane played a lot today, Cam Martinez played a lot.”

While the Eagles fell short, O’Brien remained optimistic about the future.

“I thought those guys fought, man. I’ve got a lot of respect for this football team. I think we have a bright future at Boston College. Today didn’t go the way we wanted it to go, but today could have got really ugly. It really could have because Nebraska, they did a good job. But our guys hung in there. They fought, and I have nothing but good things — very proud of our effort today.”

For the Nebraska football team, the win highlighted their growth and resilience throughout the season, providing a strong foundation for the program’s future. It was the first time the team has finished with a winning record in a season since 2016 and it was their first bowl win since 2015.
