The Nebraska football team has forged some interesting rivalries since it joined the Big Ten. Right at the top of the list are schools like Iowa, Northwestern, and Wisconsin. Each of those schools has different factors that make Husker fans mark their games on the schedule and get extra happy or extra mad depending on the outcome. Of course, especially when it comes to the Hawkeyes, things have taken a rather annoying turn of late.
However, when talking to most Cornhusker fans, the real rivalries, the rivalries that fans grew up watching and living for, all came from the Big 8 or the Big 12. Any rivalries that NU has going in the modern era pale in comparison to what rivalries used to be.
When looking at rivalries that should return every year, most analysts and reporters likely think that Nebraska vs Colorado is one of the biggies. However, while there was a short period of time when there was quite a bit of hate between the two programs, other rivalries take precedence and were far more bitter back in the day.

Oklahoma
Wanting Oklahoma and Nebraska to return to playing every year is the most no-brainer on any rivalry list. The two teams were once the top of the heap in college football, and that they were in the same conference and played every year only made the annual game all that much more interesting. Since the rivalry ended when the Huskers joined the Big Ten, the two programs have faced off now and then, but both fanbases would absolutely love for this to be an every-year thing again.
Over the years, the Huskers and Sooners played a whopping 98 times. OU holds the series advantage, 47-38-3, and it only gained on its advantage in the last three meetings. People haven’t seen the last of this game, but they likely have seen the last of an annual face-off.
Missouri
For young Nebraska fans, the addition of the Tigers might surprise. However, Missouri and the Huskers actually took each other on more times than NU and OU. The Cornhuskers had a run where this wasn’t really a rivalry as they won 24 straight at one point. However, outside of that incredible streak, the series has been relatively back and forth in terms of dominance, with Missouri having some decently long streaks as well.
The two teams first met on the field of battle in 1892 and then played every single year from 1922 to 2010. Unfortunately, not only haven’t they taken each other on since Nebraska’s final year in the Big 12, it doesn’t seem as if there’s been any discussion about restarting things.
Texas
This rivalry isn’t about history or the two teams knowing each other for decades. This one is about pure, unadulterated hatred. The Longhorns and Huskers have only played 14 times, and UT has a 10-4 advantage, but that’s exactly why plenty of Nebraska fans would love to restart this series.
Even though Texas has a huge advantage in how many games they won, the fact of the matter is that this was a good rivalry in the Big 12 because so many matchups (eight of those 14 total) were one-score games. Five of the last six were within a touchdown, including the infamous “1 second game” that ended 13-12 in favor of the Longhorns despite utter domination by Nebraska defensive superstar Ndamukong Suh.
